How To Set Up A Linksys Wireless Router With A Dsl

By connecting your Linksys wireless router to your DSL modem, you can share your broadband Internet connection with other computers in your LAN. To set up your Linksys wireless router with your DSL modem, you must have a network interface card (NIC) on the computer that you use to connect to your DSL Internet connection. You must also have Ethernet cables to connect the Linksys wireless router, DSL modem and computer together. Power off your computer. If your DSL modem is already installed, turn it off and disconnect its Ethernet cable from the back of your computer. Also disconnect your Linksys wireless router from the power source, then disconnect it from the computer if it’s plugged in. At the back of your computer, connect an Ethernet cable to the port on your network interface card. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the “Internet” port at the back of the Linksys wireless router. Attach a separate Ethernet cable to a numbered port on the back of the router. Attach the other end of this Ethernet cable to the port on the back of your DSL modem. Turn on the DSL modem and wait for at least 30 seconds. Attach the Linksys wireless router to the power adapter. Turn on your computer. Open a web browser window and type the IP address “192.168.1.1” in the address bar. Press “Enter.” Log into your Linksys wireless router with your username and password. In the drop-down list beside “Internet Connection Type,” select the type of DSL connection you have. If you don’t know what type of Internet connection you’re using, contact your service provider or select “Automatic Configuration — DHCP.” Type the username and password for your DSL Internet connection in the two fields at the top of the window. Click “Save Settings.” Once these steps are completed, your Linksys wireless router should be set up with your DSL modem. Open another web browser window and try to download a page from the Internet. If you’re still not connected, try turning off your DSL modem and disconnecting your Linksys wireless router from the power. Wait 30 seconds, then turn the DSL modem back on.
